travelling to canada from australia with srilankan passport

Question

I am travelling to Canada from Australia with srilankan passport. I have a tourist visa and retun air ticket with Cathy pacific. Should I need to get the transit permit if I'm transiting in Hongkong just for upto 5 hours. I don't want to leave the airport. Pls clarify.Marian

Mariana, it is regulated that Sri Lankan passport holders should apply for the HK transit permit no matter how long their layover will be. However, I heard that if they take the flight of Cathy Pacific into Hong Kong, then the transit permit is not needed. I suggest you confirm this with the airline in advance.
