Is it still possible for a U.S. citizen who is resident alien in ROK to apply in Korea for the Zed?

In 2010, I was able to get a Z thru a travel agency in Seoul. Five years later and I am living in Jeju, where I was told just now by the travel company designated by local Chinese consulate that Americans in Korea could no longer get Zeds through local office. I know the rules change periodically, but WHAT is the truth? Let me emphasize, I do have a Korean ARC card. Also, if able to do so, is there a minimum amount of validity time required? I have heard 5 or 6 months or nothing required. SO CONFUSED!

Thanks

Dolphina, the agency won't tell a lie. As long as it cooperates with Chinese consulates, it must know some reliable information that we don't know. If they say No, then I think you have no choice but get back to US to apply for the Z type.

UPDATE: This is a response to Danny from Iran, who kindly responded but incorrectly to my own previous question regarding obtaining a Z visa to enter China for purpose of working. For those who may also need this info, as of April 2015, it is possible for Americans working and living in South Korea to get a Zed while in Korea. You can contact either Soho Travel or Intel Core, both authorized Chinese visa agents located in Seoul. There is no requirement as to minimum amount of time remaining on your Korean ARC, and it takes approximately 4-7 days to get the Zed. But you should have at least enough to get packed and get out of the country, obviously. You can pay in Korean won directly into the agency's bank account, and you can pay an extra fee and get the visa processed even more quickly. Again, this is as of April 2015...rules do change as they have since the last time I got a Z in 2010. Actually, it is SIMPLER! Good luck and happy sojourn.

Updating my own post, forget about Soho Travel...they proved totally unprofessional and unreliable, not to mention 1/3 more expensive than the service I ended up using. Intel Core is also on the pricey side. But there is good news. You can get what you need through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centers now open in Seoul. These are dedicated visa agencies. You can mail in your documents or drop them off at one of two locations. They are cheaper and were completely reliable when I used them. They also don't require as many documents as some travel agencies that broker out the Z visa service to a third party. They are sanctioned by the Chinese government. Check online for current locations in Seoul.

Hi Dolphina, could you kindly tell me whether your ARC card was required when applying for the visa? If yes, do they require a remaining validity of at least six months?
