What kind of business activities are you going to do? Signing agreement, bidding, checking your cargos, equipment, joing the exhibition fairs or just business inspection tours? If so, you can just apply for a visitor type if you stay more than 14 days.
If your total stay is less than 14 days, then you needn't apply one in advance because you enjoy 14 days free stay. If you plan to apply, you should submit the following documents to Chinese embassy in your country.
1 your passport, copies of your passport information page and previous entry permits
2. finished ID1003A form affixed with a recent passport photo
3. flight itineraries and accommodation booking
4. financial proof, pay slip, recent six months bank statement or employment certificate
