I am a US citizen with passport. I am traveling to Russia and would like to Visit PRC from the far east of Russia and then return back there.

Jeff, you need to apply for an L type. The embassy may ask you to provide the following materials: a passport valid for at least six months and having two or more blank pages, a completely filled application form affixed with a passport type photo, the original and photocopy of your Russian entry permit, and round way tickets and hotel booking orders.
