10 hour stop over in Shanghai

We are travelling to Chiang Mai from Toronto in October and have a 14 hour layover in the city. We really want to explore the city (on a budget). We arrive at Pudong Int'l at 7:15 local time, leaving next morning at 1045 so need to be at airport by 8 am.
Any suggestions on a great, inexpensive hotel to see cool things that has an airport shuttle, swimming pool and is safe and clean etc?
We are artists and prefer a little "off the beaten path" as well as famous, popular sights. We have never even been to Asia before.
Thank you

Recommend two hotels to you. I’m sure you will like it.
1. Jinjiang MetroPolo Hotel Classic, Off Bund: no. 98, East Nanjing Road, Huangpu District.
2. The Seagull On the Bund: no. 60, Huangpu Road, Hongkou District.

But there is no airport shuttle directly. Anyway, you can take subway line 2 from East Nanjing Road to reach the PVG or Hongqiao airport directly from any of the hotel.
