NZ Passport holder travelling to Asia

I am travelling on a NZ Passport and visiting a few countries in Asia. I will be flying from Taiwan and then onto Hong Kong or Japan, but looking at spending 3 days (less than 72 hours) stopping over in Shanghai. Is this allowed? and if so do I need to fly in and out of Shanghai on the same airline?

Mike, your flight itinerary is eligible for the 72-hour transit permit waiver policy. You don't have to use the same ariline to avail yourself of the policy.
