ORD-SHA WITH PEK STOP OVER

If I purchase a ticket from ORD to SHA, can I use a 24-hour direct transit visa to visit a friend for dinner and quick Beijing tour during my PEK layover before continuing on to Shanghai; and then use a 72-hour free transit to stay in Shanghai before continuing on to a third country?

Hi Jacobson! If you plan to stop over both Beijing and Shanghai, you can't use the 72 hrs free transit policy. However, as long as your overall stay duration is not more than 24 hours, the 24-hour direct transfer policy is still available to you.
