About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If traveling on the 72hour visa, does a flight into or out of Beijing require a stop over?

I am an American(US Passport) living in Japan. I am traveling from Tokyo to Beijing, my departing flight will stop in Seoul. Does my layover flight qualify me to use the 72 hour free transit, or will my itenerary require a stop over in Seoul?
Tokyo>Beijing>Seoul>Tokyo
Thanks!

Greg, to use the 72 hour free transit policy, you shoul have a layover in Seoul. Otherwise, your route is not valid.
