About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

I have an Austrian passport, on a long vacation in Tokyo and want to visit a friend in China

Hello,
I am an Austrian citizen on a long vacation in Japan. I have a visa, which permits a 90 days stay. A Chinese friend of mine lives in Beijing and I want to visit him, so therefore I have to apply for a F type. Do I have to contact agency or can I go directly to the Chinese embassy in Tokyo?
Thanks in advance,
Fabian.

If you visit your friend on Beijing, you just need to apply for a L type. If you have the invitation letter from your friend and a copy of his Chinese ID card, you need provide return air ticket and hotel booking. However, you need to apply via the tour agencies in Japan instead of submitting your application to the Chinese consulates.

Thanks a lot for your response. But do I also need a hotel booking, if I can stay at my friends place? And what is more, does a letter of invitation from a private Person not count for a Non-business Exchanges and Visit (F type)?

Hi Fabian, the F type is not suitable for your visit purpose. You should apply for an L type instead. The letter of invitation does count for the L type application. So the hotel bookings are not required.

Thanks a lot for your quick response. Now I understand, I was confused by the information provided by the Chinese embassy in Austria which suggests a F type for me - quick misleading.
