Can I apply for a multiple entry visa valid for 12 months if I have never been to China before?

Hi there,
I am on a long holiday and would like to stay in China for an extended period. I am a Malaysian citizen applying from Malaysia.

Also, what is the maximum allowed stay on the multiple entry one at per entry?

Jay, since you have never been to China before, I think the chance for you to get the multiple entry permit is not big. Maybe you can apply for a double-entry type this time. The maximum allowed stay duration of multiple entry permit is often 30 or 60 days, which is decided by the consular officer according to your intended actitivities in China.
