About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Apply for the visa twice in one week time

I'm visiting some friends in Shanghai together with my wife for one week. We forgot to apply and now there is no time left for getting one, according to the consulate in Spain.

In order not to lose the flight tickets (cannot be cancelled), we were thinking of booking a flight to Hong Kong and spend there one day in the middle of the week, so that we would stay in Shanghai for 3 days, then spend one and a half days in HK, then apply for a 2nd one to stay 3 more days in Shanghai, and then flight back home to Spain.

Do you think we may face any problem at the Chinese customs?

Guille, in general your plan is qualified for using 72 hour free transit policy both times, so I think if everything goes well, you won’t face problems at the immigration port.

Hi there,

Just to let you all know that everything went fine. No problems at all in the customs for asking for the 72 hours permit twice in the same week.

So it's possible to visit Shanghai for 1 week without visa, if you just go to Hong Kong for 1 day in the middle of the trip.

Many thanks.
