72 hour visa to Shanghai (lax to Hong kong- then Hong kong to Shanghai- shanghai to LAX

Hello travel helpers. I will be traveling from LAX to Hong Kong on American Airlines, then a one way flight on Hong Kong Air to Shanghai, then Shanghai to LAX on American. Does this type of itinerary qualify for the 72 hour free transit?

Thank you for the reply. It's my first trip to Asia and the whole 72 hour visa thing has been a little difficult to figure out.
