Is it rude to be that blunt towards your host?

Hello. Ian hosting a Chinese student. Yesterday he said about the dinner I paid for, cooked and put in front of him 'I don't like it'.

Teri, I can tell that Chinese people wouldn't say "I don't like it" to the host even though they find out that the dishes are not good. It's courtesy. Anyway, it depends on how intimate the host and the guest are. If they are best friends, it's not rude to say so.
