About:Chinese Consulate in San Francisco

How can we apply to live in Shanghai when we retired?

We are retired Chinese American. We want to live the rest of our life back in our native town, which is Shanghai. Our son has an apartment there, which we can live. How can we apply to live there. And should we be Chinese citizen to live there?

Waykon, is your son still a Chinese citizen? If so, you can ask him to send you an invitation letter so that you can apply for Q1 type. After you acquire Q1, you can change it into a temporary resident permit. Then you can stay in Shanghai for long term. If you live there consecutively for five years, then you may try to apply for the permanent resident permit (PRC green card). If you get this permit, you can live as long as you can in Shanghai without reapplying or extending Q1 type.
