About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I am hoping to get a long L type but have recently had 3 other Chinese visas. Issues?

I am a British citizen residing in NL, so no issues with applying from the EU. I have two main considerations though.
First, I am hoping to get a L type to spend as much time in China as I can, for at most half a year if possible. However I have no set itinerary for what I would do when I am there and I am wondering if that could cause problems. I have a Chinese friend I am planning on travelling around with, and if she provided a letter of invitation would that be sufficient, along with a flight ticket?
Second, I was in China last year on three different visas (one 30 day S2 type, a 30 day X2 type, and a 30 day L type with double entry, used in that order), the last time I left was on the day the last one expired on the 13th of December. I have heard from people that if you try to enter too many times the officials become suspicious and unwilling to provide another one, especially if I am not going for an official reason. I have not yet booked a ticket, and don't want to book one only to find out that I will not be granted when I go and apply for it. Please advise.

George, you can apply for a six-month or twelve-month multiple entries L type since you have been to China many times. I don't know the thing you talked about here. But I think you still need to apply one though it is true, right? Because you want to visit China.

I personally think that you have a chance to get the multiple entry one. However, you shoul understand that its duration may be the same, 30 days. You need to exit mainland China after the duration of stay ends. It doesn't matter. Just go to HK or Macau for a day or two.

As for the required documents, you can ask your friend in China to provide you an invitation letter. It's enough.

Really? I thought flight tickets were essential for application. You have been able to get one without them?

If you can get the invitation from your friend, the flight tickets are not necessary. However, sometimes the officer may ask you to provide them too. If so, you can buy tickets upon their request.

Thanks a lot. But what if I apply without a set itinerary and what if my Chinese friend's letter of invitation has none either? By that I mean dates of arrival and departure, changes in location/cities etc. We wish to keep our travel plans flexible. So the invitation at this moment would say: plans to travel for 5 months, for example.

As you are applying for a multiple entry L type, I think you don't have to give the details of each entry and departure. You can include the detailed information of the first entry in your application form and the invitation letter. In addition, if you want to change your itinerary, after you get the L type, it will be OK to do so as you need not to book hotels provided that you have got the invitation letter.
