If for a short time stay (about 2 – 4 days) in HK, and use the airport express shuttle between the airport and downtown, or get around with MTR a lot, then you can buy the travel pass, for it’s more economical considering the unlimited ride within the valid days. And if you top up the pass, it will function as a normal octopus card.

While, the octopus card can be used in bus, MTR, airport express, ferries and cable cars, Which is more convenient. And with the card, people can get a discount. If you don’t want use the card and have balance stored in still, you can get a refund.
