About:China Transit Visa

Do we need to apply for China Visa?

we are flying from the USA (all US citizen) to Vietnam and will stay in Beijing for a few days and fly to VN ( 6 people from Houston Texas USA and 4 people from San Francisco California USA).
we 10 people arrive in Beijing ~ 5 AM (from 2 airport in USA) on June 21 2015 and stay in hotel.
we all leave at the same time on June 25 2015 at 1:30 PM which is more than 72 hours rule.
arrive 5AM June 21 and leave 1:30PM June 25

Yes, all of you should apply for Tourist visas in advance. And you'd better apply in the USA.

Hello,

we arrive 5 AM at Beijing airport June 22, 2015
and if we come to the airport at 5 AM on June 25 2015 and wait at the airport, even though, we won't fly out until 1:20 PM.
Is that OK with 72 hours rule, so we don't have to apply for visa?

Hi Ken, in fact, as you flying from Vietnam to Beijing and then back to Vietnam, you route is not valid for the 72 hour free transit.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. In many cases, the 72-hour period is calculated from the midnight following your arrival, that is, if you arrive at 5 AM on June 22, it is possible that the period is calculated from 00:00 June 23. If so, you can stay till 23:59 June 25. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, if the airline allows you to board, you can make use of the 72 hour free transit and not necessary to come to airport so early on June 25.

well,

I heard that at Beijing airport, the 72 hours start as soon as you arrive at Beijing; therefore, we will be over 72 hours. In case if it's, we come to Beijing airport at 5 AM.

Is that OK with 72 hours rule?? how and where do I apply for this 72 hours?

Leave USA Arrive Beijing 5 AM June 22 2015 and leave 1:20 PM June 25 2015 to Vietnam.
we're US citizen.

If the 72 hours start as soon as you arrive at Beijing, you can't make use of the free transit even you come to the airport at 5 AM on June 25. You can apply for the free transit at the dedicated passge for 72-hour free transit in the airport or ask your airline to declare it for you. Actually, I have heard someone say te 72 hours start from the following midnight at Beijing airport. You can check it with your airline or Beijing Immigration Office.
