Will I have access to my checked luggage or only my carry on bag during 72 hours free transit?

Thank you for your help. I plan to be traveling from Japan to the US via Shanghai in April.

Shane, it depends on your airlines. If they have agreement on transferring luggage, your checked luggage will be directly transferred to your onward plane. Otherwise, you need to pick them up and go through the checkpoint again. So please confirm this with your airlines.
