Exiting by train- proof on onward travel

I'm planning to fly into Shanghai and exit through train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong but realize I cannot buy a train ticket more than 14 days in advance. I will be flying from Hong Kong elsewhere so I can prove I will be moving on but it's not directly out of China. Can I apply for the visa without a problem?

Elizabeth, I am afraid that your HK air ticket isn't ok. You'd better have the train or air ticket for exiting mainland China.
