I somewhat remember a Mid-autumn Festival story about two lovers who could not be together and ended up as butterflies. Do you know anything about this legend?

Hey, I know what you mean.
The story is about Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. In ancient China, the young people cannot choose their life partner by themselves, all the decision are made by their parents. So the two lovers cannot be together, and then they just choose die for love.
But it is nothing to do with the Mid-autumn Festival. The legend of the Mid-autumn is the story of Houyi and Chang’e. Chang’e, Houyi’s wife, who became a fairy on the moon because she wanted to protect her husband’s everlasting elixir. Thus they were parted from each other. To memorize his wife, Houyi always make mooncakes in his home. And gradually, it became an custom.

Thanks for the clarification. I remember my father telling me this story during the Mid-autumn Festival. That must be why I thought the story was related.
