About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Tokyo- Shanghai - Munich

Hello,

I would like to apply for a 72 hours transit visa in Shanghai. However I don't know if it is possible because my flight schedule are a little bit complicated. I intend to fly from :

1. Flight : From Tokyo to Shanghai with Macau Airline , layover time 50 hours
Departure: Tokyo on Feb 12th
Transit: Macau on Feb 12th - Feb14th
Then fly to Shanghai

In Shanghai layover time of 25 hours

2. Flight: From Shanghai to Munich with Turkish Airline
Departure: Shanghai on Feb 15th
Transit in Istanbul on Feb 16th
Arrival: Munich on Feb 16th

With this flight schedule is it possible for me to get a free transit in Shanghai? Is it possible even though I use different airlines? And if yes, can I apply it directly on the airport? How much time does it take? Or can I apply it in advance?

Thank you very much for answering in advance.

Hi Jenny! Your flight schedule qualifies for the 72-hour free transit policy. You should tell the airline that you want to make use of the free transit policy, and they will declare it to the immigration counter before arrival. There is a special passageway for the 72-hour free transit application, so it won't take long.
