About:China Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit)

Working with Permanent Residence

I am a Canadian about to get married to a Chinese girl. After 5 years, when I get permanent residency, will it also grant me the right to work (and where), or will I need to get separate permission to work in mainland China?

Yes, if you can get the permanent residency, you can work in China without holding the work permit.

Does marriage (+5 years in China) mean I get permanent residency, or are there more hoops to jump through?

According to the rules, the applicant should have lived in China for five consecutive years and shall live in China no less than nine months every year with financial guarantee for living and a residence. That is, you should have a well-paid job or substantial proper financial source, and a house.

Buying a house is key...If you have 5 years and a house, you'll get a D type. I got it last month.
