Independent travel to Ngawa

I am an American and will be traveling independently to China in February. I want to visit the city of Ngawa in Aba province via Chengdu. I have previously visited Lixian, Hongyuan and Rouergou. Can I travel to Ngawa by bus and not be turned away at some check point by the police? If I can, can I continue on the other villages west of Ngawa as long as I don't enter the Tibetan Autonomous Area?

According to present regulations, only Tibet administrative region will be prohibited to foreign visitors as the Tibetan New Year is coming , excluding Tibetan areas in other parts of the country. In the case, you shouldn't be turned away at check points in SC. But I'm not clear how it is going in real operation. You'd better contact the local tourism administration for further confirmation.

Thanks. Can you be more specific about the "local tourism administration" I should contact? Would that be in Chengdu or closer to Ngawa? Thanks so much for your help.

Should be Sichuan tourism bureau located in Chengdu: 028-86702917、86702951、86702953、86702950. I'm afraid they do not speak English. You may ask your Chinese friend to make a phone call.
