Can I work in any other provinces in China having residence permit issued from one province?

Hi,
I used to be an ESL teacher in 2007. I obtained my resident permit for foreigner from Chongqing with the help of my agent but I was working in Nanchang province. Is it lawful? Does my resident permit allow me to work in any other provinces in China or do I only get to work in Chongqing? Thank you for your help.

Hi Robert! Have you changed your employer? If so, you can work in any other provinces, but remember to change the information on your residence card at the Exit and Entry Administration Department of Nanchang city.

Hi Daniel,
Thank you so much for your reply. I didn't change my employer. It was in fact my employer who asked me to go to another province to get the residence permit. As far as I know all my residence card at Nanchang, my health exams and visa were taken care of by my employer. So is it illegal to work with the same employer if the employer himself took out my Z type from another province? Thank you in advance.

If you work for the same company, it will be OK to work in another province, just change the information on your residnce card.
