About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

Do I need a visa in transit?

I am travelling to shanghai in April staying for 2nights in a hotel before boarding a cruise.

Will you take a cruise to exit Shanghai? If so, you should apply for a G type in advance because you can't enjoy 72 hours free transit.
