multiple entry visa query. what is the maximum time a multible entry one lasts?

My son and his wife will be working as school teachers in Shanghai for the next two or three years. We hope to visit twice a year.  Single entry one each time is a lot of hassle!

Bob, you both can apply for a S1 type. After you get S1 type, you just need to change it into a resident permit. Then you can exit and reenter as you wish before it expires.
