Z type/ Work permit renewal/extension

My Z type/work permit will get expired by end of February (it was issued in Shanghai last year at the same period). How many days prior to it, I should apply for the renewal/extension.
only 7 days earlier or one month earlier?
This question is applicable for my dependent family members' visa also.
