Do I need an invitation from someone in China to obtain a visa?

I would like to travel to China this year with my husband who is an airline crew member. Do I need an invitation from someone in China to obtain the entry permit?

To apply for the C type, you need to submit a letter of guarantee issued by your husband's airline or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China.
