About:Xinjiang Travel

Hi we're thinking of travelling in xinjiang.

Is it advisable for us to self travel by driving/trains or is it better to book a tour with an agency. Safety wise is it also much of a concern? Our general itenary would be the usual silk road places as mentioned in your guide.

Hey, you’re suggested to join a group since you’re not familiar with that place. Besides, an agency will better arrange your itinerary and give you a profound understanding of the place.
Here I would like to recommend TravelChinaGuide to you. If you are interested, you can contact traveltravelchinaguide.com

Hi Brandon,

Fellow Singaporean here! I've been working and traveling in China since last year.

I think it depends on where you want to go and do. Sporadic ethnic unrest aside, I have heard that XJ is still quite a reasonable, safe and beautiful place. The same guidelines apply everywhere: be very respectful of locals, polite, very watchful over your belongings etc. It should be fine :)

I am assuming that your chinese language skills are proficient... :) If you don't feel confident then perhaps you should hire a guide. But no need to hire one just because it's unsafe.
