How to get an international debit / credit card in China?

Hello. I work in China and I only have a Chinese debit card. My bank will not issue me a Visa or Mastercard. The problem is I want to travel elsewhere in Asia and they will not accept my Chinese card... What to do? Thanks.

Kate, it's almost impossible for foreigners to apply for credit cards in China. Perhaps, you may go to some foreign invested banks to try your luck, such as Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank. If they don't accept your application, I am afraid that you have no choice but go back to apply one in your own country.
