How many times can you get an L type, tourist visa in a year? is there a restriction?

I want to visit my fiance who is going to be working there, and since we are not legally married yet, i'm not sure if they will give me an S1 type for accompanying him while he is there, as they give this to "Spouse", which would mean that I would have to go visit him often during the year. Not sure if there is a restriction in the number of times you can go in a year?
