About:China Visa Fees

What is best - Get New Visa Prior to Current Expire Or Request to Extend 4 Days Prior to Expire

I am planning to go to China on 15March 15 and stay for 2 weeks (end of March).... However, my current 1Yr unlimited entries one will expire on19Mar 15. Do I need to get a new one first before entering China or go to local exit-entry admin after I get to China? Or can I get an extension in HongKong where I will be staying for 4 weeks before entering China.

Could you also advise where is the closet Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau from HongKong? Once I get an extension, could I travel within China or do I have to stay at the province where extension is granted?

Thank you,

Kay, If you ask for an extension, you should go to local entry and exit bureau in the city where you stay at least 7 days before it expires. I think you should apply for a new L type for your visit to mainland China before you go there. It's much easier. Just prepare your passport, completed application form affixed with a recent passport size photo, round-trip air tickets and hotel reservation and go to submit your application to the Chinese consulate that has the jurisdiction in your area.

Thank you so much for the quick feedback. However, when I searched the China Embassy. org site, in one of their FAQ #21, it showed the following -

21. If it expires during my stay in China, can I continue my stay?
Answer: Although yours expires, you can still stay in China until the allowed Duration of Each Stay expires. If my understanding is correct, it sounds like if I enter China before it expired day on 19Mar15, I can travel around China for 60 days (duration of each stay as per my current VISA ). In other words, there is no need for me to get a new L Visa for my planned visit in March 15...
I don't want to just get a new one if not necessary, since the fee is not that cheap now a days especially when having to go through agency to obtain it....

Could you help confirm if my understand is correct?

Thank you,

Yes, your understanding is right. Even thouh your L type will expire on 19 Mar 2015, you can continue your stay in China as long as the stay duration does not run out.
