About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I apply for the 72 hour visa free transit in Beijing, even though this is on the return leg?

Hi, I am traveling from DC to Taipei. On the way back, I am flying from Taipei to Beijing and back to DC.

On your way back, you are flying from Taipei to Beijing to Dc, which is deemed as a valid transit, so you can apply for the 72 hour free transit by providing onward ticket.
