hotel and visa application

I am staying with the family of my exchange student from China. We will be going to 4 different areas of China. I have an invitation letter that states I will be staying with the family and that they will provide all cost of the trip while I am in China. Do I still need to have proof of hotel since I will not be the one arranging or paying for this?
