Spark, I still don't think that you have higher chance of getting permanent resident permit even you stay for 6 years. I believe that there are many other foreigners who might stay in China for longer time than you. It's the Chinese authorities who control the number of foreigners who acquire the permanent resident permits.

To be exact, Q1 type is just valid for 30 days. You need to change it into a temporary resident permit. The duration of this stay permit is decided by local authorities. Also it actually has something to do with how much money your wife can provide to support you get it. There are 2, 3 or even 5 years permits.

You got the Q type sponsored by your wife and it's for family reunion purpose. The one who sponsors you is responsible for taking care of your life in China. If you plan to work in China, you should apply for a Z type.
