About:Chinese Embasy in Ireland

Does the invitation letter for the business visa need to be on letter headed paper of the company?

I am applying with a invitation letter without letter headed paper. On the official embassy website it does not mention it but on other websites I seen it mentioned as required.

It's true that there is no specific requirement on the invitation letter. However, many agencies suggest that the invitation letter should be written on letter headed paper of the company. They are more familiar with the visa issues. If possible, you can ask your Chinese partner to issue an invitation letter written on their letter headed paper.
