About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong Kong to Xian

I'm visiting Hong Kong (from Canada) for 18 days and I want to go to Xian. Can I use the 72 hour visa if I buy a return ticket from Hong Kong to Xian? Or, if necessary, I could go from Hong Kong to Xian to Macau. I would be returning to Canada from Hong Kong.

If you fly from HK to Xian and then back to HK, this trip is unable to enjoy the 72-hour free transit.
If you fly from HK to Xian and then back to Macau, you may be possible to enjoy the 72-hour free transit. But the risk still exists. The officer at the immigration may consider your trip is a round trip since HK and Macau are very close to each other.

Or personally speaking, you may consider to fly Seoul - Xian - HK and then go back to Canada. In this way, you can easily enjoy the 72-hour free transit and do not take any risk.
