You may consider to apply a single entry Tourist L for visiting China in HK through a local tour agency. As I know, many people did so, so you can consult some tour agencies online to make sure. If it is assured, you can do so.
Some Canadian said that they are unable to apply in some Asian country such as Philippine, so you are not suggested to apply it in Asian country.
