If you want to visit some places in China mainland, at least, you need to apply for a single entry Tourist L in advance. Your flights ticket to and from China and the hotel bookings in China are needed for applying the permits to China.

If you stay in Egypt for less than 90 days, you do not need it. You can enjoy the 90-day free entry to visit Egypt.
