Studying abroad in China (Beijing) - VISA

I am studying in China for a year next year, do I need to provide evidence of funds to get the X1 and then the temporary residence permit? If so, how much?
Will the X1 allow me to work while I study?

According to the rules, there is no requirement for the funds, but if you have, you can provide one.

The X1 will not allow you to have a full time job, but you can apply to get a permit from school to find a part-time job.
