Red, you can use the cable car to reach the top of the wall and then return to the root area by cable car too.8

Red, I would advise you to go to Mutianyu via bus 930, then hire a cab or minivan. The Express bus 867 is no longer available. Also, it is 30% cheaper if you use the Beijing Transportation Smart Card (Deposit RMB20 and 1st reload RMB20) fully refundable even at Airport Terminal. There are a total of 23 towers, you can take a cable car up/down to/from Tower 6 or Tower 14. Please try the tubboggan ride down from Tower 6... an experience you will truly enjoy.
