About:National Holidays in China

I will be in Beijing on Dec 31 and Jan 1st, will tourist attractions and businesses be open?

I am traveling in China from Dec 27, 2014 until Jan 4, 2015. Will I have trouble seeing the sights in Shanghai, Xian or Beijing?

They will open during that time, so there is no problem for visiting the sights then. So enjoy your trip in China. Remember to take some thick clothes, since it is the coldest time in China.
