About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

Where should I go to get a 1 year business visa for China if I'm Canadian but a non-resident?

I was teaching in Taiwan and moved to China w/ girlfriend for work. Was only able to get a one-month single- entry tourist L and then had it extended for one more month. I'm currently in HK for a renewal but seems to be difficult to get any type as I've been told, "Not sure if it will be accepted" so it's still pending. As my post-secondary education is a college diploma and not a degree, I'm unable to be issued a Work Z for work but some schools are apparently registered to fire foreign employees with a business type. With an invitation letter from the school (employer), is it possible to get it in HK (although I was told they can only issue 30 business type but I also didn't provide an invitation letter)? Or do I need to fly to Vancouver (closest Canadian city)? Also, again, I'm a non-resident so will this be a problem? It would be ridiculously expensive to fly back to Canada but receive nothing. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to get a Work Z, you need to have an invitation letter and a work permit from your school. After you get them, you can try to apply in HK, but it is still not assured that you can get one in end, just as you are told. I heard some UK citizens get in HK, so you can have a try first.

If you have the two documents it is mentioned above, it is much easier to get a Work Z in Vancouver than that in HK. You can contact the Chinese embassy there to confirm this. If it is assured, you can fly back, otherwise, you can try to apply in HK first.
