how can i walk around china alone for.months without a tour company?

Im a white dude american.
I am.wondering how can i walk around china and live there for a few months either on a tourist visa or.any kind of.visa? I have money to.take.with me of course.
My father told.me.if i go.anywhere and walk around i.will.get in trouble.they dont like.foreighners walking around that they could.cheat them.
Is this true? I do NOT want a.funky tourist bus. I want to go there stay at.hotel maybe rent a house and tae.busses around rent motorbike and what have you.
Is.this possible if so where and where not?

First of all, you have to hold a visa to tour China. China is very fare and Chinese people are very friendly in many places. I don't agree with your father. You won't get in trouble. Actually, they are more interested in foreigners than don't like them.

You should make a good preparation for hotel, transportation and others in advance so that you won't be in trouble when you travel alone. If you don't wanna turn a travel agency, you should at least know one or several Chinese persons so that they will help you sometimes.

For your solo travel, things will be easy to handle in the big cities in Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Don't go to isolated towns or villages in case of getting lost.

Hello,i agreed with the comment above me,if you are looking for a traveling partner u can contact me if you want,i'm Indonesian Living in China for 1.5 year,i can speak english and basic Mandarin.
