About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

Getting Married soon, I am a little confused on how to go about getting my visa renewed

so if anyone can help me it would be a hug blessing.

I am a US citizen and I will be marring a Chinese citizen in late Feb. I want to live with her in her hometown (jilin 吉林)but my current one expires in May. How can I go about applying for a new one? I would like to apply for one that is more than 90 days and that will not only allow me to live with her in China but also that would allow me to find a job or start a our own job. I am not sure how long the permit would allow me to live in China with her but we are looking at buying a house in her hometown so 吉林 jilin would be our permanent place to live.

thanks for any help in advance!

You mean you want to apply a new one now or apply after your current one expires?

In general, applying a new one in China is almost impossible, but you can just extend it for another duration of staying. If your current duration of stay is around 90 days, the extension will be no more than that. The extension can be applied at the local Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau.

Since you will get married in China in Feb, you are suggested to go to the local Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau to consult whether you can change your current one to a Q1 and then change it to a resident permit. With the resident permit, you can live in China for a long time. After you get a job, you can re-apply a Work Z.
