Would we be allowed to explore China on our own?

Hello, Nadine my French girl friend and myself (English) have just come back from spending 40 days touring Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile on our little 400cc single cylinder motorcycle. We are now dreqming of coming to China. Would we be allowed to explore and meet the people of China in remote regions on our own on our little motorcycle?

It is possible to do that in China, but you may need to find a tour agency in China to help you to get an invitation letter. Then you can apply for a Tourist visa, otherwise, you cannot get the visa.
