3 months extension of L-tourist visa

Hi,
I currently holds a 3 months tourist (L), which will expire on Nov 27. I have heard that it should be possible to get an extension for another 3 months, but when I search for it, I can only read about 1 month extensions. Is it possible to get 3 months? Currently I'm in Chongqing province, can I renew here or do I need to go to Hong Kong?

Thank you in advance.
Best Sophia

Your crurrent L has 3 months' duation of stay?
If so, yo can try to apply for an extension for that long. But whether you can get it or not is not assured. You need to go to the local Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau for asking.

The extension can be done in Chongqing instead of going to HK.

Thanks for quick answer, Darren!
Yes, my current L has 3 months duration of stay.

Do you know if my chances of getting 3 months extension would improve if I go to Hong Kong?

Extension cannot be done in HK. If you go to HK, your current L will expire and you need to apply a new one to enter China.

If you can provide enough documents to show the necessity to stay in China for another 3 months, you may get the extension.

Hi Ms. Catherine,
Thank you for answering.
When I currently hold a 3 months L type, can I go to Hong Kong and apply for another 3 months?
My situation is that I have used the single entry when I came to China 2 months ago. So if I go to Hong Kong I need to be sure to be able to get a new one, because I have all my things in mainland China.

Best Regards,
Sophia
