72-hour Visa-free Transit, possible?

Hi, I am from Slovakia flying to Bangkok via Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and will have 36 hours in Guangzhou. I know that I am able to get 72hour free transit but I would like to ask if my responsiblity is to contact China airlines before I fly and let them know that I will stay in China for couple of hours. Thx

Marcela, the airlines should be familiar with 72 hours free transit policy. According to other foreigners' experience, the airline ask whether any of their passengers want to make use of 72 hours free transit at least 30 minutes before the flight lands. Thos who want to need to fill forms and then the airlines will inform the Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection at the airport in advance. After the plan arrives, passengers need to go through the procedure at the certain window where their application is processed. Normally, there are signs that lead them to the window directly. If you are worried, you may call your airline in advane and ask them about what the detailed procedure is.
