Tourist visa for visiting China for a USA person

I am a US citizen and I am traveling to China in two weeks to sight see. I did not realize the time needed for a china tourist L and I am now very worried I will not get one in time. I have filled out all the paper work but I am not sure where to send/ go to complete my application. I am hoping I can go to the embassy in Ankara?
