Can I buy traintickets to HK from the counter desk in Guangzhou station later than 6 hours before the trains departure time?

Theoretically yes. You can buy the ticket at Guangzhou East Railway Station to HK more than 6 hours ahead. However, if during peak season, the ticket may be sold out in the departure date. So you'd better book one online in advance in case.
